Stormwater & Wastewater Sampling
Most industrial and many government entities and commercial businesses have stormwater obligations under today’s regulations. Also, there are wastewater requirements that apply to many organizations.
RINDT handles stormwater and wastewater testing for managers at many industrial, commercial and government entities.
Violations
Previously, many of these entities were issued citations for not meeting permit obligations, including not obtaining permit coverage. After bringing RINDT in to manage these programs, clients are happy to report that citations have ceased and regulator relations have improved. Unfortunately, many entities still have not obtained permit coverage. There are many more that have obtained a permit, but are far from compliance. Whether it be not sampling properly, not sampling at all, not having a written plan, or not conducting inspections, there are many rules to meet. There can be many potential violations unless an organization devotes the time and resources to understand and comply with these requirements. Facing these facts, maybe it makes sense to hire specialists to manage your stormwater & wastewater for you rather than becoming an expert yourself.
Stormwater permitting is becoming more and more complex as government entities work to improve water quality. Stormwater pollution prevention plans must describe your stormwater management plan in great detail. These plans must meet all the requirements laid out in the general permit, usually more than 150 pages long. Records of inspections, training, and sampling must be kept for the length of the permit. If monitoring results are above prescribed levels, permittees are required to improve their best management practices to reduce their pollutants. Some permits require different testing at different intervals at different outfalls. In addition, some permits require, different testing in different years. Of course, this is difficult to track. RINDT can help you navigate the permit parameters to avoid fines, civil lawsuits, and possible loss of reputation by following permit requirements.
What Do You Need for Stormwater and Wastewater Testing?
Most industries require stormwater sampling and visual assessments for specific parameters. However, you are only allowed to sample during specific windows of time and after rain events of certain magnitudes. Most of these samples require sample bottles supplied by the laboratory. Different types of samples have different hold times. This means that samples could be invalidated if delivered outside the laboratory hold time. Unquestionably, there’s a lot to keep up with when it comes to stormwater and/or wastewater monitoring.
